Kings in Good Position?

Anze Kopitar celebrates after scoring a goal.
If the Playoffs were to start today, the Kings would be on the outside looking in. The players would be preparing to move back home for the off season and the management would most likely be going through changes. And the fans? Well we would all be disappointed, to say the least, and asking for Dean Lombardi to be fired. Many people may ask that Darryl Sutter be fired in favor of an offensive minded coach. If the playoffs started today, the Kings would be sitting in 9th place and would miss the playoffs by 1 point. Well luckily for the Kings, for the management, and for us fans the playoffs do not start today.

Even though the Kings are currently sitting in 9th place in the western conference playoff race, I believe they are actually in a good position. Although, they're not in the best position as they could be leading the division and in 3rd place in the conference. The Kings are currently 5 points behind the pacific division leading Coyotes, 5 points behind 6 seed Chicago Blackhawks, 3 points behind the 7 seed Sharks, and 1 point behind the 8th and final seed Stars. The Kings are a win away from being back in a playoff spot, and only 5 points behind being the 3 seed, which is only 3 wins. Why is this not such a bad position? If you think about how bad the Kings have been of late, it is hard to believe they are even in the playoff picture! With the recently acquired Jeff Carter, the Kings can hopefully pick up the scoring and go on a winning streak. The Kings have 2 days of practice before playing the Ducks on Saturday, which will help a new addition like Carter. The Kings worked a lot on the power play at practice today, so let's look for scoring from the power play to pick up. The Kings can use these last few games as momentum and I think are just on the edge of a winning streak. I think they can turn some heads these few upcoming weeks, and will be competing with Phoenix for the lead in the pacific division. The Kings have too much talent to miss the playoffs and I don't think they will. This next month will be exciting to watch, and lets not hope it disappointing. Let's look for the Kings to start making some noise in the western conference very soon.
